Sligo Civil Defence – St Patrick’s Day Parade
Sligo Civil Defence took part in five parades throughout the county, namely Sligo City, Enniscrone, Dromore West, Ballymote and Gurteen.
Sligo and Grange units took part in the Sligo parade. Enniscrone and Dromore West units joined forces for both the Enniscrone and Dromore West parades and Ballymote and Gurteen units teamed up for the Ballymote and Gurteen parades.
All participating Civil Defence members were prepared in footdrill procedure by John Barden and Thomas McGlone. A large number of volunteer members marched in the parades followed by a flotilla of Civil Defence vehicles.
The Ballymote and Gurteen units were victorious in both of their parades and won the group prize in both centres. This is the second time for Civil Defence to win a prize at the Gurteen parade. Well done to all the volunteers who took part in what was a long and busy day moving from one parade to another with little time to spare and prepare.
