Donegal Civil Defence – Gorse Fire Relief Efforts – April 2013
A short time before midnight on Monday 8th April, Donegal Civil Defence received a call from Joseph Mc Taggart, Acting Chief Fire Officer, who requested that Donegal Civil Defence Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) be placed on stand-by to assist the Donegal Fire Service with a Gorse Fire in the Fawn Area of Inishowen. 12 members of the AFS crew were immediately placed on stand-by.

At 12.10 am on Tuesday 9th April, the AFS crew were mobilised. Eight AFS personnel were mobilised to Fawn, Inishowen where they were briefed by James Mc Kenna, Station Officer, Buncrana. The additional four crew members remained on stand-by at the Civil Defence AFS Fire Station, Carndonagh to relieve colleagues should the need arise.

At approximately 4am, Tuesday 9th April, the crew were stood down by James Mc Kenna, Station Officer, Buncrana as the fires were brought under control.

Acting Chief Fire Officer, Joseph Mc Taggart thanked the Civil Defence Auxiliary Fire Service for their quick response and professional manner in which they assisted at the Gorse Fire.
