Donegal Civil Defence – Final Report of Search and Recovery Operation, Lifford, Co Donegal

The search operation for a missing 22yr old man concluded on Tuesday 28th February after 10 months of extensive searches of the Rivers Mourne, Finn and Foyle and surrounding shore lands. Human remains were recovered two miles south of Lifford town. Since Mr Colhoun was reported missing on 22nd May 2011 hundreds of local volunteers searched the three rivers on a daily basis. They were joined in the search by, Donegal Civil Defence, Leitrim Civil Defence, Foyle Search & Rescue, Community Search & Rescue, Belfast, Boyne River Rescue, Strabane Sub Aqua Unit, Search for the Missing, Limerick and An Garda Síochána.
Mr Colhoun was laid to rest in St Johnston Cemetery following requiem mass in Murlog Chapel, Lifford on Sunday 4th March. As a token of acknowledgement to the generous help and support from all the Search & Recovery teams, each unit was represented at the funeral and were invited to help carry the remains of Mr Colhoun to his final resting place.
