Meath – Search for Missing Person
21 January 2015
Meath Civil Defence was tasked by the Gardaí from Trim on Thursday morning 8th January to search for a missing person in the Castlerickard area west of Trim. The person had been reported missing the evening before and his car was located close to the river Boyne at Inchamore Bridge. A boat team and land search team were deployed and over the following twelve days an extensive search was undertaken. The search involved boat and kayak teams on the river and land searches involving volunteers and Meath Civil Defence’s K9 resource. A number of other voluntary search organisations and local people were involved in the search and the Gardaí requested Civil Defence to assist with coordination of the search. A Civil Defence Search Manager was deployed each day and the Command & Control unit was used as a base producing mapping and communications for the operation. Assistance was provided by the Dublin and Tipperary K9 Units on a number of days during the search and by the national Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) resource from the Civil Defence College. Howth Coastguard was tasked on a number of days by the Gardaí with their sidescan sonar team.
The missing person was located in the river Boyne at lunchtime on Monday 19th January. May he Rest in Peace. The Gardaí thanked Civil Defence and the other organisations for their dedicated and diligent work over the duration of the search in very difficult weather conditions.
