Search & Rescue – Galtee Mountains
21 September 2017
Tipperary Civil Defence assisted in the search of the Galtee Mountains for a missing gentleman on Wednesday 19th September in terrible weather conditions
A team of 3 4×4 jeeps and the K9 unit were deployed . Civil defence was tasked to drive all the forest tracks coming off the mountain. The K9 unit was given a specific area to search. There was an extremely vast area to be covered given that the last known position of the missing walker was uunknown.
Extremely heavy rain throughout the day didn’t hinder the operation and the missing hill walker was located high in Galtee Mor by a member of the South Eastern Mountain rescue. He was very cold and wet but was in a position to make his way off the mountain with assistance.
The search was an example of good interagency co-operation for the benefit of the patient with an excellent outcome. Other agencies involved were the Gardaí from Cahir Garda Station and Mountain Rescue teams from Cork, Kerry, Wicklow and Kilkenny.
