Avian Flu and Boating Exercise – March 2015
19 March 2015
Over 40 Civil Defence volunteers attended an Avian Influenza and Boating Exercise held in Killaloe, Co Clare on Saturday 14th March.
A demonstration of the new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV/Drone) was provided by Technical Officer, Kevin Houston.
The Department of Agriculture gave a demonstration of ‘donning and doffing’ PPE over a drysuit – skills which are important in the event of an outbreak of Avian Flu.
Finally, there was a navigation exercise on Lough Derg. Seven boat crews from Limerick, Tipperary, Kerry, Cork North and Clare took part in the exercise. Offaly Civil Defence Welfare unit provided refreshments for the participants.
This day proved beneficial and most enjoyable in perfect weather conditions.
