Cork West Civil Defence – Search Operation, Glandore, January 2012

Following the sinking of the Tit Bonhomme, a 69ft twin rig trawler, at the mouth of Glandore Harbour on Sunday morning 15th January 2012, Cork West Civil Defence members have been mobilised to assist in the search for five missing crewmen.
The extensive shore-based search operation is being coordinated by a joint Civil Defence and Coastguard Operations Centre. Search teams of 3 – 5 personnel are being deployed to specific areas to search for the missing crewmen and debris from the trawler. Boat Crews from Civil Defence, Coastguard, Navy Divers and Garda Divers are also conducting searches in the inner harbour area under the direction of the Naval Service. The Regional Inter-Agency Emergency Response Vehicle has also been deployed and is being manned by Civil Defence personnel monitoring the search effort.
A total of 28 Civil Defence Volunteers were involved in various aspects of the operation on Sunday 15thJanuary and today, Monday 16th January 30 volunteers are again conducting shore and boat searches, manning communications equipment and providing logistical support to the operation.
