Darkness into Light, Donegal 6th May 2017
12 May 2017
More than 2,000 people braved the cold on Saturday morning, 6th May to take part in what was Letterkenny’s largest Darkness into Light 5K to raise funds for the Suicide Charity, Pieta House. A further 1,500 Men, Women, Children and even a few dogs walked the 5k in Donegal Town with an additional 2,600 people taking to the streets of Arranmore Island, Buncrana, Carrick, Falcarragh, Maghery, and Tory Island.
It was hard to believe it was the middle of the night, however the Donegal people were not found wanting when it came to supporting this flagship fundraiser and awareness raising event for Pieta House. The long term goal for the County has been to have a Pieta House facility based locally, a facility that will open its doors to the public in Letterkenny on 15th May.
29 Donegal Civil Defence members took part and done their bit for the event, in what has become an annual event for the crews by providing Ambulance and First Aiders at two of the venues, (Letterkenny & Donegal Town) with walkers and runners from Civil Defence also taking part in both locations.
