Donegal Civil Defence Supporting Darkness into Light Walk 2015
14 May 2015
More than 3,500 people turned out to take part in three dawn walks across Donegal last weekend (9th – 10th May) for Pieta house’s annual Darkness into Light fund raising and awareness event. This event is run annually to spread the message of suicide prevention, reminding people that even after the darkest night, daylight will come.
The second annual 5k walk / run got underway at 4.15am on Saturday morning 9th May. Local organisers estimated that more than 2,000 walkers and runners took part in the Letterkenny event, 1,500 in Donegal town and more than 700 in Maghery, which exceeded all expectations. Six runners and four walkers from Donegal Civil Defence participated at each of the Letterkenny and Donegal town events, while 32 Civil Defence volunteers provided Ambulance and First Aid assistance around the route in both towns.
Donegal Civil Defence is delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause.
