Donegal Flooding – Sunday 15th November 2015

Heavy rain on Saturday night 14th November coupled with a high tide on Sunday morning resulted in flooding throughout the Finn Valley area of Donegal with Castlefin among the worst hit. At 2.30pm on Sunday 15th November 2015, Donegal Civil Defence was requested to assist with flood relief efforts in the Finn Valley Area of Donegal. 14 members of the Donegal Civil Defence Swift Water First Responder and Flood First Responder Teams were activated to respond to flood incidents in the Castlefin / Liscooley areas where they rescued numerous farm animals from flooded areas along the River Finn. Along with the crews, 2 Rib Inflatable Boats and 1 Radio Communications Unit were deployed to the area. The service provided by Civil Defence continued until darkness fell.
Civil Defence remains on standby as rain continues this afternoon, Monday 16th November. It is understood to be the worst spate of flooding to hit Donegal in over 60years.
