8 January 2015
Introduction
As a Statutory Voluntary Organisation 2014 was an extremely busy year for Dublin Civil Defence with 487 community Events, 8 Search and Rescue operations (6 bodies recovered), and 5 Call outs for Flooding. We played a Major role in particular with the Giro D’Italia where we provided Communications from the Northern Ireland border to the finish at Merion Square as well as medical and water rescue. Our water rescue boat crews rescued over 30 people from the water while on duty for the Open Sea Swims across the four Local Authorities.
Please note that we provided Medical and Water Rescue Teams at 93 Government organised events.
The approximate breakdown of events covered for the Local Authorities is as follows;
Dublin City Council 218
Fingal Co. Co. 45
South Dublin Co. Co. 109
Dun Laoghaire Co. Co. 22
We also provided Emergency shelter for the Homeless from January to Mid – April and from the 12th December to date. This involved providing emergency shelter in the Esplanade for 20 people from 21.00 to 09.00 seven days a week with a minimum of three Civil Defence volunteers each night.
