Fleadh Sligo 2014
2 September 2014
Fleadh 2014 was a huge success. The 350 Civil Defence volunteers from Sligo, Cavan, Donegal, Roscommon and Mayo, Red Cross volunteers from Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Roscommon, Order of Malta volunteers from Sligo, Mayo and Omagh can enjoy a well earned rest. On the medical side of the event all ran very smoothly. Sunday afternoon was hectic, most of the emergencies took place between 3-8pm and following a review of proceedings medical cover was increased for the final 8pm – 1am shift but thankfully all went without any problems. Local GP’s provided great support, volunteering their time to provide cover in the medical centre and Dr. Maura Grummel from Beaumount A&E whose expertise shone on Sunday afternoon when there were incidents occurring just about anywhere around the town and as a result of the safety review for the final shift on Sunday night decided to remain with the unit until close but thankfully all settled and went well.
Having done so well Civil Defence have been asked to do it all over again next year. So for now Sligo is signing off till August 2015.
