Drone Support at National Ploughing Championships

On the 17th, 18th and 19th of September 2019 Carlow Civil Defence operated their Inspire 1 drone in support of An Garda Siochána’s traffic management operation at the National Ploughing Championship. The unit successfully streamed the downlink from the drone camera directly into the Garda on-site control vehicle, providing real-time situation awareness to decision-makers.

The operation successfully tested new mobile routers and antenna which can support the secure streaming of drone footage across the Internet. This ability greatly increases the operational capability of drones used by Civil Defence in support of the Principal Response Agencies by providing real-time situation awareness from anywhere in Ireland to anywhere in Ireland.
