Dublin Search & Rescue – Howth – June 2014
10 June 2014
While on training in Howth Harbour on Sunday 8th June Dublin Civil Defence was tasked by the Coastguard to assist a kayaker in difficulty.
At 1.15pm the Coastguard advised Civil Defence that the kayaker was in difficulty north of Ireland’s Eye. Civil Defence mobilised the team to the location. After approximately 15 minutes they got a visual on the kayaker approximately 700m north of Ireland’s Eye. When the team approached he was too tired to make his way back into shore. Civil Defence updated the Coastguard of the situation and proceeded back to Howth with the distressed kayaker and his kayak.
Once safely back to shore Civil Defence notified the Coastguard that the kayaker had been returned safely to shore and did not require any further assistance.
