K9 Exercise – Clonmel

Over the past number of years, Civil Defence has used search dogs to assist An Garda Síochána in the search for missing persons in a variety of environments. K9 (Search Dog) Units are in operation in four Civil Defence Local Authority areas – Laois, Meath Tipperary and Dublin.
Nationally, Civil Defence employ two types of Search Dog, the Cadaver or human remains search dog and the open Country Air scenting search dogs.
On Saturday 22nd August the four operational Civil Defence Search Dogs took part in a very worthwhile exercise in the Powers the Pot area of mountain overlooking Clonmel ,Co Tipperary. The search exercise involved ground search, and specific detailed area exercising the Cadaver dog.
