Laois Search & Recovery Operation

On Wednesday 12th July Laois Civil Defence was activated by An Garda Síochána to carry out a search operation of a woodland area for a missing person outside of Portlaoise town. 17 volunteers responded to the call and were on the scene within 30 minutes of the initial request. Search operations continued over the following week through difficult terrain and in poor weather conditions assisted by search teams from Kildare, Offaly and Kilkenny in addition to K9 units assisting from Dublin and Tipperary.

The missing person was located by a Civil Defence drone team and a recovery operation was carried out by members of Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána and Laois Fire Service.
