Longford Civil Defence – Animal Welfare Operation – January 2014

Longford Civil Defence recently came to the assistance of an animal welfare group by transporting feed to horses isolated due to high water on Lough Ree.

Two boat crews launched from Lanesboro, on Wednesday 22nd and Saturday 25th January carrying bales of hay to the stricken horses. A member of the animal welfare group accompanied the crews to check on the health of the animals.

Seven Civil Defence personnel were involved in the operation over an eight-hour period.
