New Head of Civil Defence

Stephen Hall, Principal Officer, was appointed as Head of Civil Defence Branch with effect from 31 August 2015. Stephen replaces Bill Smith who retired in March 2015. Bill had the title of Director General, Civil Defence but as the Civil Defence Board was abolished in 2013 the title of Director General has been withdrawn. Stephen joined the Department of Defence in 2006 and has worked in Planning & Organisation Branch, Executive Branch and Conciliation and Arbitration Branch. Stephen joined the Civil Service in 1985 and has served a variety of appointments in the Department’s of Transport, Environment, Health, Social Welfare and also with the Revenue Commissioners. Stephen is a native of Dublin but now lives in Newbridge where he is a member of the local GAA and athletic clubs. He holds a BBS (Hons) Degree.
