Offaly – Missing Person Search

On Friday afternoon 13^th February Offaly Civil Defence was activated to assist in the ongoing search for a person who had been missing in the Clara area for three weeks. The Offaly Swiftwater Rescue Technician and Swiftwater Responders met and assembled a team for a planned search the following morning. An operational briefing took place at 9am on Saturday morning, 14^th February in the Civil Defence training hall, attended by Offaly and Dublin Civil Defence teams, members of Shannonside Sub Aqua Club from Banagher and a representative from Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club.

A search was conducted by 6 Swiftwater Responders and the Swiftwater Rescue Technician on a stretch of the Brosna River, while the Dublin K9 Unit searched heavy undergrowth areas. At 2.30pm the search concluded. On Sunday morning the body of the missing person was recovered by the Shannonside Sub Aqua Team.
