River Rescue – Wolfe Tone Quay, Dublin

On Sunday 29^th May Dublin Civil Defence members rescued a gentleman who entered the River Liffey at Wolfe Tone Quay.  A member of Dublin Civil Defence entered the water and stabilised the casualty. The Civil Defence member provided the Fire Service with vital information regarding the condition of the casualty and the depth of the water he was in.  As the casualty had a severe scalp laceration and an altered level of consciousness the actions of the Dublin Civil Defence members on the scene saved his life, according to the Dublin Fire Brigade District Officer who is based at Phibsborough Fire Station..

The Fire Service used their HiAb crane with a basket stretcher to effect the rescue of the casualty.

The operation was an excellent example of inter-agency cooperation. The Dublin Fire Service commended the Dublin Civil Defence members involved for the professionalism that they displayed.
