Severe Weather Relief Efforts, 5-12 January

A total of 19 Civil Defence units were deployed during the sustained severe weather relief efforts of 5-12 January.
Taskings were wide ranging –
Transporting essential Local Authority staff to the Emergency Co-Ordination Centres; Transporting Uisce Éireann staff to operating plants; Transporting Public Health Nurses to patients in isolated areas; Transporting dialysis patients to clinic for treatment; Manning emergency co-ordination centres; Assisting with delivery of ‘Meals on wheels’; Transporting patients to and from hospital appointments; Transporting HSE staff to and from hospital shifts; Transporting palliative care teams to isolated households; Assisting stranded motorists; Collecting and delivering medications to elderly in isolated areas; Transporting pharmacist to pharmacy; Transporting member of An Garda Síochána to work; Delivering daily provisions to isolated households; Evacuating a family, without electricity or water to an alternative house; Transporting Gardaí for community visits; Providing beds and sleeping bags for homeless accommodation; Checking on welfare of vulnerable people.
