Sligo Civil Defence – Lough Gill Swim 10K Swim – August 2012

Sligo Civil Defence boat team together with the assistance of the Mayo boat team provided safety boat cover for the now annual Lough Gill 10K Swim which raises much needed funds for North West Hospice. There were 57 participants, the swim commenced at 12 noon and the last swimmer was home at 5.05pm It was a great day the lake was quite choppy out in the centre where it is very open to the elements. Safety was the utmost importance. The organizers had a kayak assigned to each individual swimmer with Civil Defence carrying out the role of safety boat and first aid on the water. These crews were backed up with 2 Ambulance crews travelling close to the shore all along the route.
