On Sunday 13th February Sligo Civil Defence was activated by An Garda Síochána to assist in the search for materials which may be used as evidence following a recent assault on an elderly gentleman in Screen, Co Sligo on the night of 18th January 2022.

A large number of volunteers along with two search managers and commander led the search for Civil Defence along the route leading up to Lough Easkey.

The Civil Defence volunteers used all the skills and knowledge accumulated from the training received. Two seperate teams of volunteers found what An Garda Síochána are acknowledging as important evidence in the case. CDO Darren McGough was contacted by the Garda heading the investigation on Sunday night commending the efforts and professionalism of the Civil Defence search teams.
