Volunteer Award – Clare Civil Defence Member

26 August 2020

Orlaith Lyons, a member of Clare Civil Defence has received an award from NUI Galway for her Civic Engagement contributions.  The award was granted mostly because of her volunteer work through Civil Defence.  This is a very prestigious award that reflects the incredible commitment not only given by Orlaith but by all of our dedicated volunteer members throughout the county and country.  Given the current climate it is worth highlighting this ‘good news’ story. It is important for volunteer members to know that their efforts and commitment are not only recognised but, are also very important to all of our communities, particularly in the current pandemic.

Orlaith has been a member of Civil Defence since joining as a teenager in 2013.  She has qualified in a multitude of skills – Emergency First Responder, Field Skills Responder, SUA Camera Operator, Severe Weather & Off Road Driving, Swiftwater & Flood First Responder and she is also a member of the Radiation Monitoring Team.  Orlaith is currently training as a Coxswain – she is the youngest and first female coxswain in Clare Civil Defence.

Clare Civil Defence are extremely proud of Orlaith on receiving this award.  The winning of an award like this reflects the professionalism, commitment and sense of community that is inherent in all of our volunteer members throughout the country.
