Galway City Search Operation
24 February 2022
On Thursday morning, 24th February 2022 Galway Civil Defence was activated by An Garda Síochána to assist in a multi-agency search of the City waterways for a missing person.
Galway Civil Defence boat crew was deployed to conduct a search of the Upper River Corrib to the Salmon Weir. The search was completed in approximately 2 hours but proved unsuccessful. On conclusion of this search, a drone crew was requested to assist An Garda Síochána and Galway Fire & Rescue Service, to assist in a search between the Salmon Weir Bridge and O’Briens Bridge in the City. This was conducted in conjunction with the OPW who reduced the flow from the River Corrib through the Salmon Weir, allowing exposure of locally know entrapment hazards for a short period of time. The search was stood down at 3.45pm and will resume with a new tasking for Civil Defence tomorrow, 25th February 2022.
