Galway Search & Rescue

On Saturday night 11th June 2022 Galway Civil Defence was requested by Galway Fire and Rescue Service to assist in the search for a missing 90yr old lady whom also suffers from Dementia, in the Glenamaddy area of Co. Galway.
The Galway Drone Crew and Clonberne Civil Defence Unit responded and reported to the An Garda Síochána on site. A multi agency search was undertaken, including Civil Defence, An Garda Síochána, An Garda Síochána Air Support, Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter R118, Roscommon Fire Service, Galway Search Dogs, National Ambulance Service and members from the local community searched the area until approximately 2am when the lady was located in a drain covered by high vegetation in a field approximately 1km from her home.
Civil Defence members utilising a 4WD Ambulance and Ranger recovered the casualty and treated her for hypothermia and other injuries before handing her over to National Ambulance Paramedics.
There was fantastic cooperation during the course of the search between all the agencies and community.
