Gorse Fires, Donegal 9th May 2017
12 May 2017
Fire crews in Donegal have had a busy time battling gorse fires across the county in the last week during the spell of good weather. On Tuesday 9th May, as crews from Buncrana, Letterkenny, Carndonagh and Moville battled a big blaze near the Glennevin Waterfall in Urris, Clonmany, the Fire Service sought assistance from Donegal Civil Defence Auxiliary Fire Units in Carndonagh and Donegal Town to relieve the already-stretched Fire Service, who were at their limit. Crew number 1 from Civil Defence, supported by the Drone Unit and Tetra Radio Communications, took up duty at 2pm, with Crew Number 2 responding at 5pm. The fire, which had been raging for three days, was brought under control at 8pm and crews were stood down.
Donegal Fire Service thanked Civil Defence for their prompt response and professionalism.
