Kerry Flood Relief Efforts, 15th – 17th August 2022

Kerry Civil Defence was activated on Monday evening 15th August due to heavy thundery showers in isolated areas in Tralee and north Kerry which caused flooding. The unit responded to assist at two houses in the Ballymacelligott area with 30 filled sandbags. Later, at a landslide in Kielduff area north of Tralee, Civil Defence provided road closure until Kerry County Council erected signage and barriers. There were five members on duty from 5.30pm to 9.30pm, utilising two 4×4 Jeeps.
At a meeting with the Director of Services on Tuesday morning, 16th August, Civil Defence was tasked with providing bottled water and check on the welfare of the family affected by the landslide incident. Civil Defence provided 30 x bottles of water – two 4×4 Jeeps and four Crew from 11am to 12.30pm.
On Wednesday evening, 17th August Civil Defence transferred a member of the family affected by the landslide incident to a hospital appointment – one 4X4 Jeep and two Crew members.
