Avian Influenza, UAV Demonstration & Boating Exercise – Leitrim – 21/02/2015

50 volunteers from 7 counties attended this exercise on Saturday 20th February. There were three parts to the exercise. Firstly officials from the Department of Agriculture demonstrating the techniques required to put on and off PPE if we are ever required to assist them recovering dead wildfowl in the event of Avian Flu.

Secondly, the volunteers were given a demonstration of Civil Defences new Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or drones.

Finally there was a navigation and radio-communications exercise on the River Shannon. The event was hosted by Leitrim Civil Defence. Roscommon Civil Defence brought their communications vehicle and Cavan brought their catering unit. Boat crews also came from Donegal, Sligo, Westmeath and Monaghan.
