Leitrim Civil Defence – Search and Recovery Activity – March 2012

Leitrim Civil Defence, was activated by An Garda Síochána at 5pm on Wednesday 28th March to assist in the search for a reported drowning victim at Carrick- on- Shannon.
Civil Defence Volunteers responded with 2 Boat crews and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) search team. The search continued until 10.30pm without success.
The search resumed at first light on Thursday 29th March. Volunteers were joined by the Garda Water Unit at 10am and a joint search was initiated. At 12.45pm the victim was located by Volunteers using Sonar and the ROV. The victim was removed from the water by Garda Divers.
