Missing Person Search, Donegal

At 7am on Saturday 12th October, An Garda Síochána activated Civil Defence to assist with the search for a missing person in the environs of Letterkenny and the River Swilly. Letterkenny University Hospital had reported that a vulnerable male was missing.
14 members of the Civil Defence Search & Rescue team responded immediately, with the Incident Command Vehicle, Kayaks, Raft, Search Equipment, Drones, Water and Shoreline Search Teams. At 8am the Sergeant-in-Charge briefed the team.
Civil Defence Kayaks and Water Unit searched the River Swilly from Oldtown to the Port Bridge, whilst the Search and Drone Team carried out a shoreline search. Simultaneously, our colleagues from Mulroy Coastguard Unit, carried out a similar search from the Port Road to the Glebe, Letterkenny.
On completion of the initial search area, the search moved to the De Valera Road area of the town and at 4.25pm the Civil Defence Unit located the body of the missing person (R.I.P.). The scene was preserved by Civil Defence until the handover to the Garda Síochána Scenes of Crime Unit at 4.45pm.
