North Tipperary Civil Defence – Search & Recovery – August 2012
On Friday 3rd August North Tipperary Civil Defence assisted in the search for a missing person on Lough Derg. The alarm was raised when an upturned speed boat was discovered near Garrykennedy. Civil Defence were tasked with conducting shore line searches and deployed and boat and crew. 16 Civil Defence members were involved with 7 others indicating availability for the following days. The agencies involved included Coast Guard, Gardai, RNLI, Ballina Killaloe SAR Dive team, Lough Derg Sub Aqua club.
The operation was stood down on Friday at 9pm following the recovery of a man’s body by a dive team close to where the boat was found.
