River Nore Search – Kilkenny

At 1.20am on Thursday morning, 16th April Kilkenny Civil Defence was activated to assist in the search of the River Nore. There were reports of a person having entered the River Nore at John’s Bridge in the centre of the city. By 1.50am Kilkenny civil Defence had two rescue boats in the water. Assisting Civil Defence in the search was the Coastguard Helicopter, the fire Service and members of An Garda Síochána.
Following an hour of searching the Coastguard Helicopter sighted a body at a weir down river and at 2.45am Civil Defence recovered the body of a girl and commenced CPR until the arrival of an Ambulance at the scene. Unfortunately, the efforts of the Civil Defence Volunteers failed to revive the girl.
The Gardaí thanked Civil Defence for their successful recovery of the body.
