Roscommon Civil Defence – Search Operation

On Wednesday night, 16^th November Roscommon Civil Defence was activated by An Garda Síochána, Strokestown to assist in the search for a missing person in the Hill Street area. As the weather was very foggy and it was dark, after completing a risk assessment it was decided that the search would commence at first light on Thursday the 17^th of November.

A team comprising of Roscommon Civil Defence field, boat and drone teams (12 team members on scene and a further 6 available later in the day) commenced the search at 7am.  Field search teams conducted an initial hasty search of the last known point. The boat team also carried out a water search of the lake. An Garda Síochána organised Air Support. Leitrim Civil Defence assisted with their Sonar equipment. At approximately 2pm the missing person was located in the water and a recovery operation took place.

There was fantastic co-operation during the course of the search between all the agencies and community.
