Roscommon – Rescue of Cruiser on Lough Ree
24 March 2017
On Saturday morning 18th March during a routine patrol of Lough Ree and the River Shannon Roscommon Civil Defence Boat Unit came to the assistance of a six berth cruiser that became marooned against buoy line safety barriers at the weir wall in Tamonbarry after suffering mechanical failure. Roscommon Civil Defence Boat Unit risk assessed the boat and the area before proceeding to recover the vessel. The crew towed the boat to the nearest harbour where further assessment was carried out. Thankfully, no damage was reported and once satisfied that none of the six occupants of the cruiser suffered injuries the Roscommon Civil Defence Boat Unit left the scene and continued to patrol the River Shannon and Lough Ree.
