Royal Visit to Sligo
19 May 2015
Wednesday 20th May marks a very important occasion in Sligo when Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall pay a visit.
Sligo Civil Defence has been tasked to provide First-Aid cover at three of the venues being visited by the Royal party. The venues are Drumcliffe Church and churchyard where The Royal party will attend a service of Peace and Reconcilliation followed by a visit to W.B. Yeats grave. This will then be followed by a visit to Mullaghmore where Prince Charles uncle Lord Mountbatten was tragically killed in 1979. From there its onto the races where the 6.30pm race has been renamed the The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall Mares Maiden hurdle in their honour and the winning prize will be presented by Prince Charles.
Hopefully the forecast improvement to the weather will materialise for the volunteers on duty all of whom will have to be in position at least two hours ahead of each scheduled visit.
