Search Operation Geesala/Belmullet, Co Mayo – July 2 – 4, 2015

Mayo Civil Defence assisted with a search for a missing person in North Mayo coordinated by An Garda Síochána.

The search took place over 3 days and involved Gardai, Civil Defence Search Teams from Mayo, Sligo & Galway, Civil Defence K9 Units Meath & Laois, Irish Coast Guard, RNLI, Order of Malta, Rescue 118 Helicopter (Sligo) and a large team of Community Volunteers.

Civil Defence had tasked the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles from Headquarters, Leitrim Civil Defence Boat Team (Side Sonar) & Tipperary K9 Unit to the Search operation for Sunday however the operation was stood down on Saturday evening following the discovery of a body. RIP

The Garda Superintendent in Charge and The Irish Coast Guard expressed their thanks to all the Civil Defence members who made themselves available for this operation and commended them for their professionalism at all times during the operation.
