Westmeath – Search & Recovery Operation

More than 100 people, including 23 Civil Defence personnel, took part in a search over a five day period for a 74-year-old woman who was reported missing in Athlone since 16th June.
Members of An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, R.N.L.I., Athlone, Lough Ree, Roscommon and Shannonside Sub Aqua Clubs, Longford Scuba Divers, neighbours, relatives and friends of the missing lady searched roads, fields, laneways, overgrown areas, vacant properties, housing estates, and areas adjacent to the M6 Motorway on the route from the town to the Coosan area where she lived. Searches were also carried out in Coosan Lough and the River Shannon. Aerial searches were carried out by the Coast Guard Search and Rescue helicopter crew.
The body of the missing lady was recovered at approximately 9pm on Tuesday evening in waters at the end of the lands where she had gone walking on Thursday 16th June.
