Wicklow Civil Defence – Flood Relief Efforts – January 2013
On Friday 18th January 2013 Wicklow Civil Defence were called by Wicklow Fire Service for assistance to pump water from flooded houses in the Knockrobin area.
Throughout the day, the flood response effort became more widespread rising from initial resources of 6 Volunteers and 3 Vehicles to 29 Volunteers and 8 Vehicles. Volunteer members spent the entire day pumping properties, sandbagging houses and evacuating residents in Wicklow Town, Rathnew, Delgany , Greystones, Kilmacanogue and Bray.
On Saturday 19th January the efforts continued with 2 Civil Defence crews pumping flooded houses at Rockey Valley, Kilmacanogue. The crews were in attendance at Willow Grove, Delgany throughout Sunday 20th January.
On Friday 25th January Civil Defence crews were called out again to sandbag houses in Wicklow Town.
Overall, during the period of 18th January to 25th January, 35 Civil Defence Volunteers and 8 Civil Defence Vehicles assisted with the flood relief efforts.
